WorkSafe is investigating a serious incident on Thursday afternoon in The Patch, in Melbourne’s outer east.

A worker in his thirties was said to be cutting down a large gum tree when a nearby tree fell and struck him. The victim was brought to the Alfred Hospital in a serious condition.

WorkSafe’s Health and Safety Operations General Manager, Lisa Sturzenegger said the incident showed the dangers found with routine tasks.

“Ensuring safety issues are understood and dealt with prevents devastating and life-changing injuries,” said Ms Sturzenegger.
