Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ) is looking into and incident where a recreational diver experienced significant injuries arising from gas embolism and decompression sickness.
The man began to develop symptoms of decompression illness not long after he returned to the surface after a single dive. These symptoms can begin as mild but can get worse and become severe.
According to the alert issued by WHSQ all members of the recreational dive industry are advised to review their emergency plans in case of diving injuries to make sure that workers treat all signs and symptoms of decompression illness or gas embolism seriously.
