WA: Worker Dies in Gas Explosion

WorkSafe WA is investigating the death of a 38-year-old man from a gas explosion south of Armadale on Tuesday morning.

Police said a hydraulic cylinder was believed to have exploded at a rural property on Abernethy Street, Oakford.

WorkSafe  said the man was believed to have been working with a manual hydraulic press when a metal cylinder shattered, striking him.

Inspectors travelled to the site soon after and will interview witnesses and investigate the circumstances.

WorkSafe WA Commissioner Lex McCulloch said any work-related death was a tragedy, and relayed his sincere condolences to the man’s family.
