“With high winds hitting many parts of the state today, builders and developers must ensure uncompleted buildings and structures are well supported,” WorkSafe Construction Manager Allan Beacom said.
“Walls must be adequately braced until work is completed. Roofing and other building material that could be picked up by the wind must also be secured.”
”The risk is not just to the workforce, but passers-by, neighbouring premises and emergency service workers who may be called if there is an incident.”
“Apart from the danger to people, days, weeks or months of work could be undone in a moment.”
Mr Beacom said there had been collapses in the past as a result of buildings under construction not being properly secured when strong winds hit.
“When buildings collapse, the chance of death or serious injury is high.”
