Notifiable Fatalities: A Safe Work Australia Report

The recent Safe Work Australia Notifiable Fatalities Monthly Report recorded that there were 11 deaths in Queensland from 1st January to 31st March 2012, the second highest number in Australia.

For the period covered in the report there was a total of 58 deaths at Australian worksites with the highest number of 15 being in the transport and storage industries whilst the construction industry came second with 13 fatalities.

The breakdown of the fatalities in the report stated that:

23 male workers and 3 female bystanders

9 were vehicle incident/public road crash

5 hit by falling objects

4 from a fall

2 electrocution

2 vehicle incident not on a public road

The final 4 were by explosion, hit by a moving object other than a vehicle, hit by an animal and assault respectively
