Safe Work Australia has recently released the Notifiable Fatalities Monthly report for the month of June where 15 work-related notifiable fatalities were reported – 11 male workers; 3 female bystanders and 1 male bystander.
Of these fatalities, 2 workers and 3 bystanders died from incidents in the air and on public roads. Four of the 15 fatalities were categorised as Vehicle incident – public road crash; 3 were Trapped in Machinery; and 2 for Drowning. The other 6 fatalities were involved in these incidents: Pedestrian hit by a vehicle – public road, Fall on the same level, Fall from a height, Vehicle accident – other, and Hit by moving object (unattended vehicle) – other.
Four deaths each occurred at Agriculture, forestry and fishing and Transport and storage workplaces. One fatality occurred each at a Construction, Retail trade and Health and community services workplace.
Safe Work Australia’s Notifiable Monthly report provides a national summary of work-related fatalities notifiable to Australian work health and safety jurisdictions. Aside from providing an estimate of the number of work-related fatalities, the report also shows details of the types of incidents involved. It also includes details of the industry of the workplace at which the fatalities occurred, as well as the industry of the decedent’s employer.
