Energy Worker Dies in Bush After Taipan Bite

A man working for Ergon Energy died after he was bitten by a Taipan in central Queensland.

He was with a backhoe operator trying to access dense bush to get to a pole that required maintenance last Friday and somehow became separate from the crew who raised the alarm.

The police, SES and colleagues searched for him but he was dead by the time that they found him from a Taipan bite.

Workplace Health and Safety Queensland is investigating and have issued an alert about ensuring that workplaces have the appropriate safety management systems in place to prevent these kinds of accidents.
